The Mass of Anointing

In the afternoon on Friday was the Mass of Anointing at the Eglise Ste Bernadette. We were here yesterday for the washing of feet and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is good to connect yesterday’s thoughts and recollections with today’s Mass. Under this roof where yesterday we prayed the rosary, washed and had feet washed, and experienced the miracle and gift of God’s forgiveness, we now experience yet another miracle. In this celebration of the Eucharist, we share as community his gift of his body and blood, true food, consecrated and changed from the simple bread and wine placed upon the altar. This is the essential food for our journey here in Lourdes and for our journey on every path we find ourselves on our life’s pilgrimage to God in heaven. The malades received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Pictured above Alessandra is anointed by Msgr Kidder. The special graces of this sacrament are particular to those who carry the burden of illness. Much as the malades yesterday allowed others to tend to them in the washing their feet, today they place their trust in the Lord, to strengthen them in their battle, to bring them cures if it be God’s will, and feel the joy of the forgiveness of their sins. Around every corner here in Lourdes we witness miracles. If we listen and look closely, we will see them every day at home as well. The picture below shows us a miracle after the anointing!
