To the left, looking down on Sacred Heart Church from atop The Fort, known in Lourdes as "the Parish Church", you see a mix of the new and the old. Build in 1890's this church serves the community of Lourdes and sits in the same location as its' predecessor which burnt to the ground. Bernadette would walk from here, her home very close by, down the hill and over the Gave river to collect wood for the fireplace. On one such day, she would meet up with Mary and that meeting would change her, this town, and the lives of millions of pilgrims. Today we baptized a very young pilgrim, Abraham who is a companion to his malade brother Isaiah. Fr Tim Lyons performed the baptism with me assisting. Last year at this time I baptized an 8 week old companion to her older sister malade. This font is the only thing that remains from Bernadette's parish church. She began her journey to sainthood at this very place. Abraham begins his journey here today. May Almighty God bless you Abraham.
