We celebrated mass on Sunday morning in the St Pius X Basilica also known as the underground basilica. Built in 1958 to accommodate the millions who would travel to Lourdes to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Mary's apparitions to Bernadette, it can handle a mass of 25,000. This morning it was a more intimate celebration of 15,000. The mass was celebrated in multiple languages with the Order of Malta organizations and malades from around the world. Cardinal Burke was the principle celebrant along with numerous other cardinals and bishops and about 200 priests. We finished the mass with a procession to the Grotto of the Bishops, priests and deacons where we sang the Regina Caeli. It was a beautiful clear day.
