The Baths at Lourdes

There is always a sense of calm that descends upon us all after the washing of the feet. The wet waters of Lourdes that we used to cleanse the feet of those in our care, are filled with the same love as the misty and tearful eyes and dry throats of the washers and the washed. While we are still absorbing this, and after lunch we head to the baths. For over 150 years pilgrims from around the world travel to these waters to seek a miracle in their lives. They come to find themselves closer to the presence of Our Blessed Mother. To do as the 14 year old Bernadette did and trust that Mary can lead us closer to her Son. The malades, with the help of caring attendants, slide into the waters. Some feel the cold, some find themselves in suspended time with God, some feel the waters but register no temperature.....so many different accounts. All, say they come out changed in some way. They may believe they know the miracle they seek. Over the years I hear from many that they received their miracle....a personal, perfect for them miracle, but so very often not the one they had ever envisioned.
